Photos By Gerard How It All Got Started
| I remember my photography instructor his name was Mr. Nevcheck, when he caught me sleeping on the enlarger in the dark room, exhausted from working two jobs and attending school, he said "I never in my life seen a student do that, sleep, you can always be a mediocre photographer. I never considered myself anything else but a mediocre photographer, it sure has worked for me! "Dreams Are Nothing More Than Plans Awaiting Action" After returning from the service in 1976 Gerard, landing a job at Ford Motor Company working on the assembly line, he knew that this was not what he wanted to do for the rest of his life. Its easy to know what it is we dont want to do, the problem comes in knowing what it is we want to do in life. Gerard wanted to be in the entertainment business but there were a few big setbacks. He could not sing, dance, act, or tell jokes so he looked around to see what would get him there and he saw the camera would do that. After taking a basic course in photography and, while driving a twice job a New York City Taxis Cab, he would take pictures of people on the movie sets after dropping off his passengers. One day and after bypassing security (Gerard got better and better at this) was face to face with Richard Burton and Tatum ONeal while they were taking a break on the set filming Circle of Fear at the New York City Port Authority. "Mr. Burton may I take your picture"? Yes was his answer. Ms. Tatum turned her head like a little snot. With my hands shaking him being my first big star (and a lot of blurred shots to prove it.) I took the shots. After calling the Daily News and New York Post, the New York Post wanted it ask me to come by drop off the film and they will call me. No way, Gerard got burnt like that once before and they ran his photo with no credits. If they wanted the shot they would have to process the film on the spot make a contact sheet chose and pay me right there, they did. The New York Post published one of them. | ||
| When I saw my photo in the Post, I knew that was what I wanted to do in life; be a Free Lance Publicly photographer. Here is a copy of the press release publicly shot, the one that started it all! I had not decided what to call myself yet as you can see. | ||

| Tanya Simpson, Radio Personality of Sirius XM Satellite Radio, M-F 6pm-12am ET on Heart N Soul. Sat-Sun same time on Soultown. The first woman talent on Sirius and heard on 98.7 KISS FM-NY, was my first foothold into the world of entertainment when I came out of prison in 1999. A girlfriend wanted to go to a KISS FM concert I told her I would take her and when we leave the show my world would never be the same. I knew I would be testing myself going to work again as a freelance publicity photographer and I told my date so. I got my date backstage (like I do, she loved that) to take a few shots of her with some of the Celebes I targeted Tanya Simpson. I met with her the next day to go over the photos she loved them (Its always been my next day service that gets them.) At that time I asked if I could become her personal photographer, her answer was yes. Tanya, was my first celebrity personality, through Tanya I have attended and worked backstage for her where some of my best work of today's artists was accumulated. I am so blessed and happy to still have her still in my life. Thank you Tanya Simpson, they need to know you gave a brother a chance and he is a success story because of you. Stay blessed Ciao 4 Now Love Me | ||

WELCOME TO SGIB MAGAZINE "Soldiers Got Intentions, Believedat!"
Long Island's ('hell with that') The World's First Urban Bilingual Music Magazine! You can't take away the title from the Wright Brothers for building the first airplane can you, no matter how fast the fastest jets can fly! "No"! So no one can take away my title of creating the first urban bilingual music magazine, this handle will ride with me even if another magazine never hits another stand. This magazine was designed to highlight my career as a freelance publicity photographer over 35 years, and the many contacts that I still maintain, the very rich, rich, rich, history and music that Long Island has long been a part of, but not fully recognize, and the positive things in our community virtually a family magazine. As well as an educational tool to teach the kids on Long Island English to Spanish, and from Spanish to English, in a format that would keep their attention and that's music. I have come to believe that the powers that be on Long Island are happy with throwing away new money behind the same old ideas. They could do more! Maybe not wanting to divide their slice of the pie by anyone of the likes of me. (just a thought)
Till the day I die, I will be the creator of Long Island's first urban bilingual music magazine and at any time, anyone, anywhere, feels that they can be as passionate about making a difference like me or wants to resurrect this project, feel free to contact me. And just between you and me, I wanted to do my magazine in several other languages as well. The items, images and ideas are the one quest of one man's determination to make a difference; to bring around awareness, to bring about change and the connecting of us all-both Old & Young and above all, the proof that whatever it is you want to do in life you can- for I am living proof! "Dreams Are Nothing More Than Plans Awaiting Action" My new show is titled "SGIBmagOnTv" on You Tube check it out! Remember, "Never disrespect the elderly and and sometimes, sometimes, you're the only one who can see a vision!" Ciao for now, Gerard
![]() This is to my website friends! Photographing Michael Jackson-This shoot was truly a highlight in my career (I have him in other phases in his llife). As being the only photographer allowed in the inner office of Dr. Reverand Al Sharpton along with Johnnie Cochran and Doug E. Fresh when Michael prepared to go public at the "National Action Network" at Dr. Sharpton's "House of Justice," regarding Michael's treatment from Sony Records, which was at that time was located on Madison Avenue in Harlem, New York City. I had the time to really look up close and personal at this superstar, through the viewfinder and the experience was nothing short of having pins sticking me throughout my body. This photograph, among others from this assignment, will always be the pinnacle of my career. "Michael Jackson-you were BAD!" ![]() Gerard presents his canvas of Michael Jackson to Reverand Al Sharpton, at the "National Action Network" in Harlem, New York on June 27, 2009.
